FRIDAY REVIEW
June 13, A.D. 2008
On the Eve of the Global Anglican Future Conference
But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. (John 16:13)
One Anglican theologian has written that “GAFCON is a
meeting of bishops of the Church, with clergy and laity too, who seek God’s way
forward in our day, on the firm basis of the truth he has revealed.” We will
gather to seek God’s way forward, not by human wisdom, but by spiritual
discernment as spiritual people taught by the Holy Spirit (2 Corinthians
14:15). We are convinced that God has made His truth known to His people and
that the Holy Spirit will lead us into all truth. We will seek God’s guidance
as we pray and study His Word together in order to identify His future
directions for us.
Ginny and I are very excited since our
pilgrimage begins right after church this Sunday. We’ll fly out of JAX Sunday
afternoon to ATL and then cross the pond overnight arriving in Tel Aviv Monday
at 5:25 p.m. local time. Remember that the Holy Land is seven hours ahead of us
here in the southeastern USA as you pray for the GAFCON participants and the
work that God is calling us to do. While GAFCON doesn’t start until Sunday the
22nd, we’ll be joining other pilgrims to visit biblical sites
beginning with Caesarea Philippi, and then Megiddo, Tiberias, Nazareth, the
Galilee area, the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and, of course Jerusalem.
We know that God will be blessing
all the conferees from around the Anglican world mightily as He has always done
for those who love Him and are called according to His purposes (Romans 8:28).
We don’t know exactly what God intends to do in our midst. That’s why we’re
going to seek His face and His will for us. “However, as it is written: “No eye
has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for
those who love him” (2 Corinthians 2:9).
Since we’ll be in the Holy Land, this will be the last Friday Review until July. However, technology and time permitting, we’ll try to send back some reflections and perhaps a picture or two as GAFCON unfolds. May God be glorified in all that we say and do.
Your brother in Jesus the Christ,
Jim McCaslin+
